of the structure of the Web pages "Estonian Vertebrates".
There are 484 species of vertebrates found in Estonia - 283 of them are
described in this Web site. The species are systematized according to
five groups of vertebrates (Fishes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds and
Mammals). However, most descriptions of species are in Estonian.
Depending on the task it is possible to reach from one page to the next
clicking with the mouse on the colored underlined hypertext. The
same design of all the Web pages should be helpful.

Upper
Frame. At the top of all the pages
you can find the upper frame. It is possible to get to the
alphabetic list by clicking on the name of particular group of
animals (Fishes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Mammals). You
can reach there also by clicking on the photo of the
representative of the group on the front page. There is an
icon of a house in the left corner of the upper frame.
Clicking on it you can always get back to the front page. You
can see another icon with the question mark in the right
corner of the upper frame. Clicking on the icon gives you help
information. |

Lower
frame is situated only on the front
page. It gives you general information about the authors and
its supporters of the present project (Authors,
Sponsors). The page of authors provides the names and
addresses of people who carried out the project. It also has a
section of copyright. There are educational tasks and general
information about vertebrates (Educational tasks, Vertebrates)
in lower frame. However, some educational tasks are available
only in Estonian. |

frame. All the Web
pages, except the front page, have a menu of options on the
right. These are the following: general information of
particular group of vertebrates, survey of them in Estonia and
protection. |

Description
page and supplementary page. There
are 283 species of vertebrates presented on our Web pages.
Each species is located on two pages. The first one is the
description page. The photo helps to grasp the description.
Clicking on the photo makes it larger. Supplementary page
provides more detailed and scientific information about
species. There are links to the supplementary page, systematic
and alphabetic list of particular group of animals at the
bottom of both description and supplementary page. |

engine presented on various pages
allows to find species quickly and conveniently. You must only
type in the name of species and click on the search button. |

"Estonian Vertebrates" WWW
pages can be used in nature study from the fourth to the seventh forms,
in biology from the seventh to the ninth forms of the basic school and
from the tenth to the eleventh forms of Estonian secondary school. It is
also applicable in the lessons of environmental study. The Web pages can
be made use of teaching various themes in the above mentioned forms of
Estonian State Curriculum.
Electronic tasks are designed for the
biology lessons in the seventh and eleventh forms. These educational
tasks will enable students either to learn the themes independently or
to test their knowledge.
The other possibility to use Web pages
"Estonian Vertebrates" in biology lessons is providing
students with additional printed students' worksheets. You can find the
worksheets (in Estonian) clicking on "Educational tasks" of
lower frame.
It is also suggested to make use of
"Estonian Vertebrates" in several out-of-class activities,
e.g. in writing and compiling research work, reports, essays, etc.
