What is “Hiking Across Estonia”?
It is a web-based simulation in which you can take a hike round Estonian nature. During a five-week period you have to go through five different communities – heath forest, meadowland, grove, waterside meadow and bog. There are seven different environmental tasks in each community (total 35) to be solved during the virtual hike. During the whole hike you also have to deal with virtual eating problems.

Whom is the simulation for?
The main target group of the simulation “Hiking Across Estonia” is suggested to be the students of the upper basic and high school. College students and anybody who is interested in the Estonian nature and environmental problems should find it fascinating are supposed to be interested in it.

What kind of computer do you need?
The minimal configuration of computer for participating in “Hiking Across Estonia” should be PC-486, 32 MB RAM, which has a sound card and speakers, VGA color monitor and network interface card. It is advisable to have Internet direct connection, although it can be used with a dialup connection of good quality. The graphics card and monitor must be capable to realize the resolution of screen area 1024x768. When they do less it’s impossible to take part in the virtual hike. The program works with operating systems Windows 95 or higher and with Windows NT 4.0 or higher. The web browser has to be MS Internet Explorer 5.0 (or later) or Netscape Navigator 4.5 (or later). In what the competition stands for?
The winner of the "Hiking Across Estonia" is the team who has collected the biggest number of points. Giving the correct solutions to problems collects the points – easier questions give less, tough problems give more points. Deduction of points occurs in case you will ignore virtual eating rules. The maximum score is 925. You don’t have to have big knowledge to take part in the simulation.
